If we refer you to a doctor, you don’t need to worry about getting a bill. We will either get the carrier to accept the claim and pay the bill or you generally won’t be charged.
You can switch to a different doctor after your first doctor visit (unless your employer is self insured)
How the workers compensation system works is this: If you see the same doctor twice, then the Industrial Commission considers that you have chosen to be treated by that doctor. If you want to change to a different doctor later, then you must file a change of doctor request. (In most cases, the change of doctor request will be approved.)
So be aware that if your company sends you to a clinic of their choosing for the first visit, and then the company clinic schedules you for a follow up visit the next day (which they often will) then you are considered to have chosen the company clinic to take care of you, instead of a doctor of your own choosing.
So once you have seen the company doctor or clinic one time, call us before you go back a second time, if possible. If you have already been to your company doctor twice or more, and you are not getting the care you deserve, call us and we will work with you to get a change of doctor request approved with a doctor different than the company doctor.
